UPDATED ITINERARY AS OF JULY 11, 2013

This summer, The Chicago Farmers will visit two unique locations:  The Eastern Illinois University Renewable Energy Center  (REC) and  Rund Farms in Pesotum, IL, just south of the University of Illinois at Champaign.

10:45--Check in----- The Tour will BEGIN at EIU REC (the entrance is at the intersection of McKinley Avenue & 18th Street in Charleston, IL) and will feature a tour of this state of the art biomass power plant that lies within a beautiful structure but looks nothing like a power plant.

At 12:00 p.m. NOON, we will depart EIU and head for Rund Farms.  (From I-57, take exit 220 onto US 45 toward Pesotum, take the 1st right onto CR 200 N - go 3 miles, turn right at CR 1300 E- 1.25 miles.  The Farm is on the right.  (2.5 hours from the Chicago Loop)

12:45 p.m. --Welcome to Rund Farms!

1:00 p.m.-- Lunch (Beef ribs cooked Argintinean style over an open fire, green salad, fruit, cheese, French style bread, Argentinean wine and soft drinks).

1:45 p.m. - 3:45 p.m. -Our speakers from EIU will be Dr. William Perry, President of EIU to talk about the Renewable Energy projects; Dr. Jill Deppe will speak on Wildlife/Biomass Crop Research; and Mathew, Luis and Eric Rund will speak on Miscanthus production, Inter-planting corn, Harvesting, Markets, Management Practices, guide your walking tour and much more!

Eric Rund is a long-time member of The Chicago Farmers.  While not organic farmers, Eric says their goal is to manage the various parts of their farm in ways that are at once sustainable, practical and profitable.  Eric and his sons will be on hand to explain these practices, as they apply them to raising food-grade corn for Frito-Lay, seed beans for Pioneer, miscanthus for biomass energy and bedding, and prairie grasses on CRP lands.

Bring the family, the grandkids, spouses... this will be a summer tour to remember.
