Our speaker this month, Tamara Nelsen, will provide a "Global Policy Update" for us. Tamara Nelsen is the Senior Director of Commodities for the Illinois Farm Bureau, managing the activities and programs of the Commodity Department. Nelsen serves as a major resource person on commodity and food industry issues, including biotechnology, consumer trends, and international trade. Prior to joining the IFB in 1998, she worked in Washington, D.C., as a senior consultant in agricultural marketing and policy. Nelsen was an assistant executive director for the International Food and Agricultural Trade Policy Council, later serving as treasurer and secretary as well. Nelsen received a bachelor’s degree from Stanford University and an MBA from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, while also taking advanced coursework in agricultural marketing from Purdue University.

Current global issues, such as agricultural export trends, growing world food demands, and trade policies, will be discussed. Tamara will also address changes in the global supply of ag products based on her observation of commodity production both in the U.S. and around the world.
