Join The Chicago Farmers for our Monday, March 10th Meeting featuring our speaker,  Nick Paulson; University of Illinois; Associate Professor.

We will focus this meeting on the U.S. farm policy, including a discussion of the new farm bill signed into law in early February.

We welcome Nick Paulson of the Department of Agricultural and Consumer Economics at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.  He presented on the farm policy at the 2013 Illinois Farm Economics Summit (see the farmdoc website for his presentation).  His presentation will be followed by a question & answer session.

Dr. Nick Paulson is an associate professor, specializing in agricultural finance.  Paulson received his master's degree and Ph.D. from Iowa State University.  His research interests include agricultural and applied finance, farm and risk management, crop insurance, decision making under uncertainty, agricultural policy and biofuels.

This meeting comes at an exciting time for agriculture given the passage of the Agricultural Act of 2014, providing a blueprint for farm policy.  The bipartisan farm bill will save $24 billion over 10 years compared to prior funding levels.  Major revisions to farm subsidies move policy towards a greater reliance on risk management tools, such as crop insurance.  We look forward to hearing Dr. Paulson's perspective on this landmark legislation.
