    To all perspective participants of the 2020 Chicago Farmers Agriculture tour,

    First of all, I wish to salute Jim Ward for his many, many years of successfully leading farm study tours all over the world. Jim is retiring after the 2019 Poland tour. His generous gift of time and expertise have made these trips enjoyable and educational, while at the same time serving as a major source of funding for our Chicago Farmers Scholarship Fund. In terms of time and money over many years probably no one has contributed more. Thank you Jim!

    Argentina is the destination for the 2020 Chicago Farmers Agriculture study tour. Leaving cold February weather behind, we will travel a hemisphere south to where the hospitality of the people is as warm as their summer weather.     Preliminary Itinerary

    • A visit with a large grain farmer and his family, and an explanation of the challenges faced by agriculture today in Argentina

    • A view of the main port in Argentina, from a boat on the river.

    • A tour of their board of trade

    • A visit to a small family owned planter factory

    • Two nights stay in a unique hotel built into a former grain elevator. Positioned at a bend in the Parana River, the restaurant atop the hotel affords one an incredible view of ship traffic while enjoying some of the best beef and wine in the world.

    • Two days in wine country in the beautiful foothills of the Andes. We’ll not only sample the fare, but we’ll also see how the grapes are grown and how the wine is made.

    • Two enjoyable nights in Buenos Aires, aptly named the “Paris of South America”. Besides world renowned architecture, there are wide avenues beautiful parks, wonderful restaurants, and shops. On our last night in Argentina we’ll enjoy a wonderful Tango show, before returning to the winter in Chicago.
